Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Ambrosia of The Purple Booker.

This is not actually the final book in a trilogy but rather the setup for the ultimate finale. And the stakes are ... staggering to say the least. Mare is held captive by her very worst nightmare and used as a propaganda puppet yet the girl still has the capability to wander off on dangerous tangents of misguided trust. And then we get other points of view. I predictably especially enjoyed staying with Cameron inside the resistance forces. I really enjoyed her voice and her if not unbiased then in other ways biased perspective.
I have the very distinct feeling that I won’t like where this is headed, but seeing that there is a whole book yet waiting after this it is to be expected that things have to go downhill before anything can be resolved. I just hope that the dear lightning girl finally comes to her senses regarding whom to trust.
Trilogies are nice and well, but four books offer a completely different opportunity for betrayal. I don’t know if the series was planned as a quadrilogy from the beginning. At the moment it seems that the story arc is well-balanced to carry across four books and I hope this holds true. What are your thoughts on longer series? I really prefer one or two books to series books. Especially if the series is not done and I have to wait a year before the next book comes out! I forget what happened in the previous book by then and have to familiarize myself with the characters all over again. Sometimes it seems as though the authors just want to drag things out to sell more books.
I enjoy series, though I'm not brilliant at keeping up with them, these days. They do offer an opportunity it engage with characters at a deeper level and provide progression over a longer period of time. But inevitably some books within a series work better than others and the longer a series continues, the harder it is keep the tension and storyline fresh and adventurous, so three to four books is probably the ideal. I agree. There is definitely time for things to get worse before they get better again. My Teaser is from a mystery, Southern Fried by Tonya Kappes.
I enjoy reading a series if each book also stands alone. Otherwise, I tend to forget details during the time between books. It's fun to get to know the characters extremely well over several books.
