Teaser Tuesday: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm.
To play along just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan.

The Sword of Summer –
Disney Hyperion

So I was officially sixteen. For my present, I got cornered by Uncle Freaky, who announced that I was marked for assassination.
— Chapter 3

“Well, I live a double life. Tonight, I’ll escort you to dinner. Then I have to rush home and finish my calculus homework.”
“You’re not joking, are you?”
“I never joke about calculus homework”.
— Chapter 12

The first thing I realised when I started this book was that while I was quite on top of things concerning all things Greek, Roman, and Egyptian gods I really need to brush up on my Norse mythology if I want to understand all the references. Sure, you can enjoy Rick Riordan without the extra layer, but it is literally double the fun if you get to laugh at all the jokes.
I will dearly miss Percy and the crew of demigods, but I’m very optimistic that I’ll like Magnus Chase just as much. And if you’re wondering about the surname, I’ll have to say that some traits are obviously hereditary. This is a promising start to a great new adventure and I couldn’t imagine a better author to tackle this complex field.

If you had the choice of which circle of gods your family was related to, would you choose Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Norse or something else altogether? Share preferences and teasers in the comments.

I enjoyed your teaser. I think which gods I would want to be related to would depend on my mood somewhat. Today I would like Lithuanian gods. My Teaser

Great teaser! :D I would totally go for Norse gods. I can't resist a bearded man with an axe. My Teaser

Doesn't sound like much of a birthday present. I enjoy Riordan's books, though. Here's mine: http://wp.me/p4DMf0-Yi

Sounds like this could be funny. I like the name Uncle Freaky.
My Tuesday post features In His Arms.

Enjoyed the teaser. The 2nd one made me laugh a little. I've wanted to read Percy Jackson since the first time I heard about it but I still havent. 😞
I recently bought the book set and hoping to catch up with all things Rick Riordan because I'm sure I would love his works.

To answer your question, I am only familiar with Greek myth and evenso, not so much knowledge about it. I am ashamed. I studied in a Christian school and sadly, mythology was not part of the curriculum although it was mentioned by our English teacher a couple of times. Plus I read a lot, not just that yet.
