Article 5 by

Article 5 - Tor Teen

Beth and Ryan were holding hands. It was enough to risk a formal citation for indecency, and they knew better, but I didn’t say anything. Curfew rounds wouldn’t begin for another two hours, and freedom was stolen in moments like these.
-- Chapter 1

I was out. But not free.
-- Chapter 5

This Tuesday I’m not going to say much about the fun book I’m reading because I’m up to my neck in a definitely not so fun book (which you don’t have to worry about since it’s developmental psychology - unless anyone wants a teaser from that?). Anyway, Article 5 is, you might have guessed, a dystopia and it seems like a promising scenario so far.

This week’s can’t wait to read selection is
Glitch by Heather Anastasiu.
Publication Date: August 7th 2012

Glitch - St. Martin's Press
In the Community, there is no more pain or war. Implanted computer chips have wiped humanity clean of destructive emotions, and thoughts are replaced by a feed from the Link network.

When Zoe starts to malfunction (or "glitch"), she suddenly begins having her own thoughts, feelings, and identity. Any anomalies must be immediately reported and repaired, but Zoe has a secret so dark it will mean certain deactivation if she is caught: her glitches have given her uncontrollable telekinetic powers.

As Zoe struggles to control her abilities and stay hidden, she meets other glitchers including Max, who can disguise his appearance, and Adrien, who has visions of the future. Both boys introduce Zoe to feelings that are entirely new. Together, this growing band of glitchers must find a way to free themselves from the controlling hands of the Community before they’re caught and deactivated, or worse.

Why I'm waiting: Away from fairies and vampires here is science fiction to explore! I'm looking forward to a different angle on a dystopian world, with new technology and super-human abilites thrown in the mix. Also, a telekinetic heroine and a touch of romance? I'd say that sounds like fun. :)

My Soul to Save by

My Soul to Save - Harlequin Teen
Keeping up with Tod was a lost cause. He didn’t have to edge past row after row of ecstatic fans, or stop and apologize when he stepped on one girl’s foot or spilled her date’s drink. He just walked right through seats and concertgoers alike, as if they didn’t exist in his world.
They probably didn’t.
-- Chapter 1

They’d done it before. A lot. Dekker Media was making deals with demons—and letting its teenage stars pay the price.
-- Chapter 6
This is book two of the Soul Screamers series, which is a really fun read both in terms of making you laugh and in keeping you interested in the story. The first book is mostly used to to establish the characters, the story universe and its rules - with a puzzle to solve thrown in. The second book continues to build on this foundation and promises an even bigger mystery.

“I’m adventurous. What can I say?”

He knew if this went badly, it went badly for them, too.
-- Chapter 10

Short teasers for a comparably long novella. I’m all for appetisers, even if the main course is still a couple of months away.
