Waiting on Wednesday: Timepiece by Myra McEntire

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week’s can’t wait to read selection is
Timepiece by Myra McEntire.
Publication Date: June 12th 2012

Timepiece - Egmont USA

A threat from the past could destroy the future. And the clock is ticking...

Kaleb Ballard's relentless flirting is interrupted when Jack Landers, the man who tried to murder his father, timeslips in and attacks before disappearing just as quickly. But Kaleb has never before been able to see time travelers, unlike many of his friends associated with the mysterious Hourglass organization. Are Kaleb's powers expanding, or is something very wrong?

Then the Hourglass is issued an ultimatum. Either they find Jack and the research he's stolen on the time gene, or time will be altered with devestating results.

Now Kaleb, Emerson, Michael, and the other Hourglass recruits have no choice but to use their unusual powers to find Jack. But where do they even start? And when? And even if they succeed, it may not be enough ...

The follow-up to Hourglass, Timepiece blends the paranormal, science fiction, mystery, and suspense genres into a nonstop thrill ride where every second counts.
Synopsis from goodreads.com

All who read Hourglass know the suspension we were left with. Everything can happen when you play with time and we can't wait to see how exactly it plays out. Also, it looks like Timepiece is more about Kaleb, who didn't play a very big role in the first book. Love triangle, time paradoxes and twists that leave you reeling - we expect everything and will undoubtedly be surprised again.

So what are you waiting on this week?

  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

It wasn’t possible. No one died at seventeen.
-- Chapter 5

The girl had passed out by the time Perry got the fire started. She seemed to do that a lot.
-- Chapter 12

Two short teasers today. I have actually just finished the book and will have to let it settle a bit before I talk about it. There is more to come by way of a sequel (Through the Ever Night). In a year, but beggars can’t be choosers.

Although Vincent promises that he’ll do whatever it takes to lead a normal life with Kate, will that mean letting innocent people die? When a new and surprising enemy reveals itself, Kate realizes that even more may be at stake—and that Vincent’s immortality is in jeopardy.

Why we're waiting: Can you ever have too much Paris? Or swoon-worthy Frenchmen? That's what we thought. And after the teasing reveal of the third title (which will be If I Should Die - how is that for suspense?) we really want to get our hands on book number two.

Teaser Tuesday: Memory by Christoph Marzi

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
To play along just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Memory - Stadt der Träume (Memory - City of Dreams) by Christoph Marzi

So yes, this book is written in German and, as far as I’m aware, has not yet been scheduled for translation. But as Marzi is one of my favourite magicians with words I thought I’d give you a little peek into this book. Translations are mine.

Memory - Arena Verlag

Die Stunde, in der das Mädchen ohne Namen seine Geschichte verlor, war die letzte des Tages.
--The hour in which the girl without a name lost her story was the last of the day. --
pg. 7

Vielleicht würden auch sie bald spüren, dass es dort keine Geister mehr gab, dass die Träume der Toten auf immer entschwunden waren.
-- Perhaps they too would soon feel that no spirits were lingering there anymore, that the dreams of the dead had vanished forever. -- pg. 180

Memory is related to Marzi’s Heaven (City of Fairies) in the sense that it is set in the same city (London!) and story universe. There are small connections between the two, but you can read one without having read the other. And as a matter of fact, Heaven has just been published in English by Orchard Books. Have a look at it if you are partial to finely wrought stories with subtle fantastic elements. And for Geman readers I’d very much recommend that you ckeck out Marzi’s other works, if only to see how beautifully the words dance under his command.
