Teaser Tuesday: Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm.
To play along just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard.

Something Strange and Deadly –
HarperTeen

“Miss Fitt, you know curiosity gets men killed.”
I grinned. “Then I daresay it’s good I’m a woman.”
— Chapter 7

“If you interfere in my affairs again, I’ll personally feed you to the Dead.”
I scoffed. And if you ever get in my way, I’ll personally feed you to my mother.
— Chapter 10

If anyone asked me which Teams I am on, I’d possibly say Human, Vampire, Werewolf, Good, Unicorn ... or something like that, depending on mood and book. You would probably never hear Zombie. I’m not a Zombie reader and the undead are one of the few things to freak me out (and spiders, but that’s another kettle of fish). So a plot with zombie hunters and possible voodoo has a hard time to make it onto my radar. This is most likely why I haven’t read this series yet, but I’m very much in the process of rectifying that omission. Because creepy zombies aside, this historical setting is decidedly fascinating and don’t get me started on mysterious shenanigans. Add to that an exasperatingly stubborn and crafty main character and this promises to be an entertaining read.

Which aspect would make you hesitant to pick up a book? Share team affiliations and teasers in the comments!

I like reading zombie books but I haven't read this series. What makes me hesitant to pick up a book? If the cover is too naughty looking. lol I do read erotica, but I am very picky on when and where I read them.

LOL...I love these teasers, especially the second one! This series has been on my radar for a while but I haven't had a chance to pick it up yet. As for hesitating on picking up a book... uninspiring synopses. I'm less likely to read a book if I'm not intrigued by the book description, regardless of how popular the book seems to be.

Here's my Teaser from The L Section!

I'm not much for zombie books. Zombies sometimes give me nightmares. I like your teasers though. Like the attitude they show. Thanks for sharing.

Well, you managed to get my interest. I do occasionally read zombies (I have also posted a few reviews) but recently I found there were simply too many books, none of them original like, say, Max Brooks or Mira Grant. Maybe I should give this one a try.

Not a zombie, but shivers/ nightmares are guaranteed!

I love it! These teasers definitely make me want to read this book. My kind of character! I haven't read any zombie fantasy. Maybe it's time!

My teaser this week is from Cost of Survival by Bonnie R. Paulson: http://www.foofynotfoofy.com/foofynotfoofy/2015/7/21/teaser-tuesday-cost-of-survival-by-paulson

I can't say I am a big zombie fan either (although somehow I got sucked into The Walking Dead television show--but I would argue it's not really about the zombies and it's more about the living humans). I don't know what to think of this new trend of having zombies as feeling/thinking beings. I imagine I will eventually have to give it a try. After all, like you, at various times I fall on team "Human, Vampire, Werewolf, Good, Unicorn" and occasionally Angel and Demon too. So, it's probably inevitable. :-)

I really do like your teasers though and you've gotten me curious about this book.
